With highly acidic outer scales, the plant and reptile hybrids known as Tototiles live very different lives than the other sex. Males are born with legs and able to move, while the females root into the ground shortly after birth. Their vibrant colors warn other would-be predators that eating one will be fatal. The males tend for the females starting as early as infancy and love and care for them. They sleep cuddled together and softly purr when close.
