The Sagan is thought to be a living creature from Mars, whose eggs can survive the harshness of outer space and re-entry into the atmosphere. Though likely present throughout the solar system, they only grow in hot and dry locations. The larger males have tentacles that second and roots to bury in the ground to manage body temperature.
