With highly acidic outer scales, the plant and reptile hybrids known as Tototiles live very different lives than the other sex. Males are born with legs and able to move, while the females root into the ground shortly after birth. Their vibrant colors warn other would-be predators that eating one will be fatal. The females are cared for as early as infancy by the males, and they share a strong bond of love for each other. They sleep cuddled together and softly purr when together.
